Chasing God
01:46
|
|||
This is bad sick
Time passes mad quick
If your doing backflips or sleeping on a mattress
If I had a nickel for every fickleness I've practiced
I would make the head of Bill Gates turn backwards
Every actor and actress
They can dodge facts but they can’t dodge taxes
They get large plaques but they can’t solve madness
Body gets waxed but it’s all just ashes
I’ve been chasing God
I’ve been chasing Mercury and lightning
I’ve been pressing hard
I’ve been coming up short
Lately I’ve been thinking about
What’s going to happen with you and I
I need a new religion
Or I need a new lie
Try hard to act courageous
Traveling the Appalachians
Gather lacerations as the pastor’s chanting affirmations
I trap my reservations
Cast down high my imaginations
Washed away replaced with faith
Through pages of the book of Galatians
Look at the racists
Look at the cases
Look at the haters hating
Look at the things they saying
Look at the playlists
Look at the way they stage it
Look at the facts and face it
Look at the mad amazing Grace
The man of faith’s the one that comes through unscathed
I’ve been chasing God
I’ve been chasing Mercury and lightning
I’ve been pressing hard
I’ve been coming up short
Lately I’ve been thinking about
What’s going to happen with you and I
I need a new religion
Or I need a new lie

Lambs to the Slaughter
03:14
|
|||
Dead in the water
Like lamb to the slaughter
If the wind doesn't sing her song
And I'm speaking in tongues
Cause I need a Holy Ghost
Dead in the water fishes swim under the body
That person should have turned their life around instead of party
We all know the consequences of being naughty
But probably watch the funeral
No one ‘ell talk about it
Solomon and the atheist knew there’s no point applauding
Cus when our time is up I promise that you won’t be pardoned
Death is coming
It’s making its rounds
A dragonfly wing
Twirls downward to the ground
It lands 'top a the brown sweater
On the corpse that floats face down
Under shadows of sycamore trees
Crickets chirp loud
Brown leaves dead on the ground
A twig snaps
Shhhh
Nearby lambs are lead to the slaughter
Are they “mercenaries or lovers”
I wonder about the shepherds ahead and behind them
Used to protect them from predators
But now they bind ‘em
Look how they lined 'em
All in a row before they go silent
Blind to the fact their butcher is the one who guides them
Eyes on the back feet of the next lamb in line
Wish I could go tell ‘em
Your life is more than your dying
You must think for yourself
But I know there’s no use in trying
They’d follow all the way off a cliff in their blind compliance
Shepherd knows of their weakness
To him it’s science
Dead in the water
Like lamb to the slaughter
If the wind doesn't sing her song
And I'm speaking in tongues
Cause I need a Holy Ghost
Ghost
Ah
The wind howls
The stomach growls
The ships bow is pointing to the West
If the wind doesn’t sing
There’s only war and unrest
Pour the gunpowder out
Till you’re the only one left
And even in a crowded room
The loneliness and stench
Is still palpable and casual
At this point
Exclamation point
All capitals
How can we experience the love without the power too?
How can we experience the love without the shower too?
Without it who...
Shoot...
Who am I?
Shoot
Who are you?
"Who are we?"
Confusion rules but God does not create confusion
Or dissolving of communities or constantly accusing
Yo
I need the Spirit like I need my breath
Or like a ballerina needs balance when attempting a pirouette
“Gho-”
Serious as death
Keeps me checked
Not having the spirit is an irritant
Give Him credit if I’m here when you find me
For every good characteristic ever inside me
Guides me kindly
Binds my mind
Reminds me because of Christ
I can fly with my sins behind me
Dead in the water
Like lamb to the slaughter
If the wind doesn't sing her song
And I'm speaking in tongues
Cause I need a Holy Ghost

Ocean Floor
02:13
|
|||
Yah yah yah yah
Yah yah yah yah
In the North Sea where all the oil be
He wears a yellow suit as he sinks flamboyantly
He said to his fiancé
It’s like being to space
Only you’re in the ocean
Bubbles float by your face
And even though the jobs dangerous
She ain’t wanna take away something that he loves so much
His boots touch the seafloor
It’s a relief from being stuck in a free fall
Where you can’t see at all
Sort of calm
Like it’s all fine
But the storm’s up above
And it all hit the fan
Got a call
Told him pull yourself up back to the boat
Even the captain who called ain’t had this happen before
Oxygen cord got caught
Started to snap as it broke
Now five minutes of oxygen is all that's left in his suit
Figures if he can get to the oil rig maybe they’ll find him
But it’s pitch black
There’s no one to dispatch him or guide him
No time for idling
He picks a direction and walks it
His hands in front of him
Like a blind man in the darkness
He’s trying to not to think about
How he could be found as a carcass
He’s surprised as he walks right into his target
Climbing up to the top of the platform
Hoping they’ll come back for him
Until it all goes black
Meanwhile back at the ship
His whole crews' been watching
Through a robot they sent
Hoping to boost his confidence
On their way now
But they know the clocks ticking
It’s been thirty minutes and counting
His oxygen has been down
And yet one of his friends was praying the whole time
He’s not religious but convinced
No way his friend is goin’ die
Did I crawl out of the creek bed?
Off the sea floor?
Baby, just to live like this!
Pulls him and gives him CPR
Opens his mouth wide
Tries another time
One more time
One last hope try and
He starts breathing
Hearts beating
He can
Yah yah yah yah
Yah yah yah yah

Not the End of the World
02:31
|
|||
If I die it’s not the end of the world
If I never get a job it’s not the end of the world
If I never write a song that’s a pearl
If this makes me wanna hurl
Yup
That’s not the end of the world
If I settle for less than the best in the world
Being stressed to death’s not the end of the world
Being homeless asking for help on the curb with a dog
Torn shirt
It's not the end of the world
Never get a job in tech
Never earning ya’ll respect
Never the less it’s not the end of the world
Best of the both worlds or the depths of lowness
Being depressed and hopeless
Not the end of the world
I know
I know
Cus I’m still here
Still care but I feel fear
Although
Although
I know
It’s not the end of the world for sure
I don’t
I don’t
Feelings sure feel strong right before they’re gone
I shrunk
I shrunk
At the same time center of the universe um...
It’s not the the end of the world
Stop drama it’s not the end of the world
Your fine it’s not the end of the world
Calm down it’s not the end of the world
At times it feels quite the opposite
Like all eyes are on the consequence
And everyone and their mama knows I’m incompetent
Drama like I’m caught in a sauna
Or accomplishments are larger than they are
It defies common sense
Counting all compliments
Snobbish and competitive
False confidence like a sedative
Yet it is not the end of the world
If I die today or stop doing anything of worth or for pay
Or publish every day
Or leave the USA
Or do nothing but pray
Or even leave my faith
Delete my social media and eat nothing but cake
Might be a mistake but the orbit wouldn’t break
If I do nothing but DoorDash
Move to another state
If my friends leave
If my friends stay
Join the seminary
Or move to LA
Or NYC
Or never move away
Or read all of my books
Or never read a thing
Ain't the end of the world either way’s what I’m saying
Take all my time to chasing a dang dream
Paralysis by analysis for the remainder
Painter
A plaguerer
Minor majorer
Caterer
World changer
They say it ain’t occur
Ain't it sure true
That the world’s still blue and green
Still spinning
Know what I mean?
It’s not the the end of the world
Stop drama it’s not the end of the world
Your fine it’s not the end of the world
Calm down it’s not the end of the world
